Talking about k-indi is like exploring new worlds, or well, that's how I interpret it. You might wonder why? I say it's like exploring new worlds, well, literally that's how you read a book that hooks you so much that you read it many times.
That's what k-indi is like for me, but it has a deeper meaning that makes you reflect on many things in your life, such as if what you do is your passion, if you're happy with your job or with the life you've led up to now. And it moves many emotional fibers, I answer that you never paid attention before, that now through music it makes you reflect, but you also remember moments that you lived with family, friends or with close people.
Today I want to introduce you to a Korean group that reminded me of those moments of my childhood that I shared with my sister, this group is called "holocity" their unique style makes them stand out and they draw attention wherever they go, they draw attention not only for their way of dressing but for their music, in the interview I had with them and that they very kindly gave me. I was told that their musical style is inspired by the 80s, and they combine it a bit with a futuristic style due to the format they have for both their songs and their music videos.
Today I want to introduce you to a Korean group that reminded me of those childhood memories I shared with my sister. This group is called "Holocity." Their unique style makes them stand out and attracts attention wherever they go. Not only because of their way of dressing, but also because of their music. In the interview I had with them, which they very kindly gave me, they told me that their musical style is inspired by the 80s and that they combine it with a futuristic touch due to the format they use for both their songs and their music videos.
That's what makes this band unique: their sound and everything they convey to the people who listen to their music. They make us feel like everything bad will pass.
Thank you guys for your art and for being our safe place.
How do you define your musical style?
R/ A: We make citypop or synth pop music, based on retro style sources we try to create a modern style with finishes.
I'll stop here because I'd like to know a little more about holocity. How did you start as a group?
A: Our first beginnings were rock/pop, however, over time we decided to change to our current style and sound that you know today as holocity. After some changes of the group members we are now two members.
Can you tell us about the colors of the group and how the idea came about?
A: When we decided to change our color, we tried to find our style and tastes in the pop category, then we discovered that we loved the sounds of the 80s and their retro style and vibe. We decided to develop this style and we made songs based on a synth band.
What message would you like to leave with your music?
A: We want our songs to reach our audience like a forgotten dream, it could be any dream or goal you have through our music, don't forget that dream or goal you have in your heart, let our songs be hope for our audience. "When you listen to our music remember your dreams."
To which countries would you like to take your music?
A: We would like to take our music to any part of the world, for people who need hope to stay in real life and for our music to be a source of inspiration for those people who need a dose of positive energy.
Would you like to take your music to Latin America?
A: Of course yes! We would love to. We receive a lot of support from you and very good comments from you, that motivates us more and gives us a lot of strength to continue making music. We hope to one day be in Latin America to share with you and give our best in our show.
Have you considered collaborating with any Latin artist that you like?
A: Sure! We haven't had the chance to work with them yet, but we would love to collaborate with some Latin artist, we are open to the possibilities.
Do you know any Colombia artists?
A: We still don't know much about artists from Colombia or Latin America, but it would be a pleasure to know more about their rhythms and music.
How would you describe your sound to people who are just entering this musical world, your different sounds and independent musical style?
A: We try to make music that describes another world that is in our mind, it can be a dream or utopia or old memories. We hope that you feel nostalgia whether you have experienced it or not.
The name of the group caught my attention a lot, but what caught my attention the most was the word "holo", if I'm not mistaken it only means in Korean, correct me if I'm wrong. Does that word have any meaning in your culture?
A: You have agreed on a good point. Our name has two meanings first "holo" which means hologram. So as we mentioned before it means that fantastic illuminated city where dreams exist.
And second, as you pointed out, “holo” means loneliness in Korean, so our name also means loneliness in today’s society. When you put these components together, it has a broader meaning, which is “the dream of people who live in this lonely society.”
I have several of your favorite songs, but there is one that I identify with and it is “a flower on the wall.”
Could you tell us more about this song?
A: It is a song about little hope, including us, we also live in a world that tests us every day. But we can have dreams in our minds, that is why we wrote this song to give a little hope to all of you who struggle every day. “A flower on the wall” could be anyone.
Another of the songs that is on my list and is one of my favorites is “like cinema.” What was your impression when composing this song and the music video? I confess that it was one of the first songs with which I met you.
A: A: When we have a good day or moment we wish it would last forever. But real life is not like that, but a good moment can last in our hearts as long as we want this song speaks to us and reminds us to keep those moments like a movie.
In two of your videos I noticed that there is a rocket in the song “the night that can't sleep” and “rocker boy”, I thought it was a good complement. Can you tell us more?
A: (1000) guitarist, a rocket is a metaphor that is a way of traveling to a revealed world. This is also a way of inviting you to a fantasy world that we created.
What book have you read and which ones do you recommend to our readers and what lesson do you leave them with?
A: The book we recommend is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho, it would be a good book. The story is about someone who is looking for a dream and has a moving ending, good narration, totally recommended.
Reflection: these guys invite us through their music to enjoy life more, to not let ourselves be overwhelmed by problems or what others tell us, they invite us not to forget our dreams and to continue fighting and persisting in our dreams. Through their music they offer us a refuge and a band-aid for our daily lives and to continue fighting for our dreams and goals.
